Agenda:
Deliberation on Comprehensive Reforms to Immigration Policy and Border Security Measures

The United States, home to one-fifth of the world’s immigrants, grapples with rising challenges at its border. With every coming year until 2024, the number of illegal immigrants in the USA had only grown at an unprecedented rate. In response to these challenges, the administration has declared a national emergency and deployed thousands of active-duty troops to the Southern border, characterizing the situation as an “invasion.” This approach has included invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, raising critical discussions regarding human rights implications. Furthermore, the transition from Title 42 to Title 8 has introduced new enforcement strategies that further complicate the immigration landscape. As the Senate prepares to deliberate on comprehensive reforms, it is essential to strike a balance between ensuring national security and upholding humanitarian values.

Reet Rijhwani
President, The United States Senate
My name is Reet Rijhwani, and I'm honoured to serve as the President of the United States Senate for the 10th Edition of EHMUN. I thrive in MUNs and debates, sharpening my strategic thinking not just on stage but also through chess. When I’m not buzzing around in academics, you’ll find me lost in a novel, and yes, I’d absolutely swoon if Shawn Mendes walked by—no shame in that!
This year, the United States Senate will address the critical issue of immigration reform and border security measures, a topic that deeply divides the nation and impacts millions of lives. As senators of one of the most influential legislative bodies globally, it is our imperative to forge equitable solutions addressing the economic, security, cultural, and humanitarian dimensions of immigration. We must eradicate ideological divides and balance national security concerns with America's long-standing legacy as a nation of immigrants, creating a thoughtful and sustainable path forward. In doing so, senators must remain acutely aware of the complexities of the issue and the significant impact their decisions will have on millions of lives.
