Agenda:
The Cuban Missile Crisis; 15 October 1962 CE

It's 15 October 1962; the world stands at the precipice of nuclear warfare as American intelligence confirms the deployment of Soviet missiles in Cuba, a mere 90 miles from the shores of the United States of America. The potential fallout of the Cold War reaches its crest as America updates its military status to DEFCON 2, indicating that its armed forces are ready to engage within six hours. A further escalation to DEFCON 1 would signal the initiation of an all-out war. As the arms race between the two superpowers proliferates and proxy states all over the world struggle to maintain stability, the threat of nuclear escalation and the fate of civilization hang in the balance.

Chairperson, DEFCON Assembly

My name is Mitansh Mishra, and I am thrilled to serve as the Chairperson for the DEFCON ASSEMBLY. I am deeply passionate about technology and mathematics, and I can solve a Rubik's Cube in mere seconds. Beyond academics, I am an avid chess player and, in my free time, I enjoy taking care of my dogs, being a football geek and diving into novels.

This year, the DEFCON Assembly convenes under the shadow of one of the gravest threats to global peace—the Cuban Missile Crisis, with the freeze date set at 15th October 1962. As a high-stakes historical crisis committee, our mandate is clear: to navigate the world away from the brink of nuclear war. With tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union at an all-time high, and the discovery of ballistic missiles in Cuba throwing the global order into chaos, the responsibility to chart a course through this volatile standoff lies squarely with us. Delegates must act with urgency, wisdom, and precision, while remaining conscious of the delicate interplay of ideology, diplomacy, and power that defines this moment. Every decision taken here could shift the trajectory of the Cold War—and history itself.
