Agenda:
Addressing the Escalation of Maritime Security Threats with a Special Emphasis on Illicit Arms Trade

In today’s increasingly interconnected global age, maritime security has emerged as a critical area of concern. Therefore, this year’s agenda underscores the importance of addressing several key issues, including the protection of shipping routes, the countering of piracy, and the suppression of illicit arms trade and human trafficking. Given the global economy’s profound dependence on the secure and uninterrupted transportation of goods through international waters, ensuring strong maritime security is indispensable for sustaining economic stability and promoting international peace.

Neev Turakhia

Chairperson, DISEC

My name is Neev Turakhia, and I am incredibly excited to serve as the chairperson for the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) at this year’s Intra-School Emerald Heights Model United Nations Conference. With a strong passion for quizzing, fintech, and international relations, I bring a unique perspective to our discussions.

This year, DISEC will conduct a thorough examination of our agenda, aiming to develop effective strategies to tackle pressing global challenges. Delegates will be tasked with proposing meaningful solutions to prevent the illicit trade of weaponry and ensure accountability for those responsible, while also reinforcing existing conventions and treaties that address both maritime piracy and the illicit arms trade. Together, we will strive to create a safer and more secure world. The Executive Board of DISEC looks forward to two days of intellectually stimulating yet challenging experiences for delegates as they work together to tackle this urgent issue.
